At IVF Donostia we have an excellent egg donation service that helps many women who for different reasons have not been able to become pregnant to fulfil their dream of becoming mothers. Our donor bank is currently the largest in Gipuzkoa. Thanks to this sizeable bank, patient waiting lists are minimized.
A treatment using donated eggs lasts approximately two months from the time the patient makes the decision to receive the treatment.
Treatment with donors eggs is suitable for women with:
- Premature ovarian failure.
- Genetic abnormalities.
- Successive failures with in vitro fertilization.
- Ovaries that are technically inaccessible for egg harvesting.
- Women over 40 with a normal menstrual cycle.
- Successive miscarriages.
When selecting donors we take into account both women’s physical characteristics and blood type.
The process in 5 steps
Donor ovarian stimulation
Ovarian stimulation leads to increased oocyte retrieval.
A simple procedure lasting around 15 minutes under sedation. Around 3 hours later, once the patient has been checked they are discharged.
Once a semen sample has been taken from the man it is prepared for subsequent fertilisation (using conventional IVF or ICSI
In vitro culture of fertilised eggs
Fertilised eggs are cultured in the laboratory for five days to reach blastocyst stage. Thanks to advanced culture systems and thorough in-laboratory tracking with the latest incubators, embryo quality is screened at all times to select the best embryo to transfer.
Once the best embryo is identified it is transferred to the uterine cavity. If the remaining embryos show good morphology they are frozen.
